Breeding of Oncidium
INQUIRYOncidium is a perennial herb native to Brazil, Peru, and Mexico in the Americas. Oncidium is widely applicable but has rich flower colors, exotic flower shapes, and a long ornamental period. This makes it one of the most essential potted plant species. Oncidium is ideal for home cultivation and is one of the most popular commercial flowers in the flower market. In addition, Oncidium is also used for cutting flowers and is widely popular.

Our breeding platform

Tissue breeding. Our tissue culture technology established based on plant cell allotypes has been widely applied in conserving Oncidium germplasm resources, hybrid embryo salvage and embryo culture, and mutagenesis breeding based on plant tissue culture. It has provided various ways to breed new Oncidium varieties with high quality. In addition, we offer plant tissue culture, which provides an effective method for the rapid propagation and detoxification of Oncidium. This effectively accelerates Oncidium breeding and promotes the rapid development of the Oncidium industry.
Genetic engineering breeding. Some progress has been made in applying genetic engineering techniques to Oncidium transgenic breeding. We have used Agrobacterium-mediated and gene gun transformation methods to introduce soft rot-resistant related genes into Oncidium, and have now screened and bred soft rot-resistant plants. In the breeding of new transgenic Oncidium varieties, we have screened several genes related to aging in Oncidium cDNA and found that these genes control the aging and shedding of flowering apparatus by suppressing the information transmission of ethylene, and our research provides research ideas and breeding strategies for producing transgenic varieties of Oncidium with a longer flowering period. In addition, using genetic engineering technology, we have also made more progress in breeding Oncidium flower color and fragrance varieties.
