Breeding of Snapdragon
INQUIRYSnapdragons are a common garden flower. In flower beds, flower borders, roadside cultivation, and indoor ornamental uses, dwarf species are commonly used. In addition to their high ornamental value, snapdragons can also be used as a medicine, clearing heat, and cooling the blood, and reducing swelling. In addition, snapdragons are also widely used as model plants for plant science research.
Lifeasible has many years of research and service experience in ornamental plant breeding research. We have developed various new varieties suitable for cultivation in different application scenarios according to the different application paths of snapdragons, which greatly enriches the ornamental quality of snapdragons and increases their application value.
What we provide
- Extended flowering period. Using genetic engineering breeding technology, we introduced genes to regulate plant growth metabolism and growth development into the chromosome group of snapdragons. We obtained snapdragon plants with a longer flowering period and a longer plug life. In addition, this transgenic snapdragon variety showed greater resistance.
- We used gene silencing technology to reduce the relative expression of the AmPIF4 gene, which negatively regulates the synthesis and release of floral fragrance substances in snapdragon petals, resulting in a new snapdragon variety with a significant increase in the main floral fragrance volatile components and an overall increase in floral fragrance release.
- In addition to the monochromatic snapdragon varieties, we have also developed various new bicolor varieties, such as the more attractive apricot yellow and white bicolor, purple, and white bicolor, and rose red and white bicolor, which are more attractive and have higher ornamental value.
- New snapdragon strains. We used ploidy breeding to produce tetraploid snapdragon plants exhibiting larger organs. This resulted in significantly increased plant leaf number, flower bud number, flower stem size, branching, etc. In addition, in strain breeding studies, we have produced dwarf, semi-dwarf, and large-culm snapdragon species and ultra-dwarf species with only 10 cm plant height.
- In the breeding of new snapdragon floral types, we have selected new varieties of heavy-petaled snapdragons and new varieties of butterfly snapdragons.
In addition, we have been bred with different leaf shapes and for different application scenarios, such as outdoor and indoor growing conditions.
