Breeding of Prunus mume
INQUIRYPrunus mume, one of the traditional Chinese flowers, has a very long cultivation history. It is loved by people because of its delicate flowering posture and fragrant scent. In-depth breeding research on Prunus mume is of substantial significance to improving Prunus mume ornamental quality and economic value.
After years of systematic research and development, Lifeasible has achieved a series of innovative results in genomic research and analysis of essential traits, and has constructed a molecular marker-assisted breeding system, along with making breakthroughs in breeding new varieties of Prunus mume to enhance varieties and promote the growth of this industry.
Our breeding platform
- Hybrid breeding. We offer hybrid breeding techniques that have been effectively used in breeding research species of new Prunus mume varieties. So far, we have successfully bred several new Prunus mume varieties with high ornamental and stress resistance.
- Molecular marker breeding. By constructing high-density genetic linkage maps and QTL localization analysis, we have identified key genetic factors and closely linked molecular markers controlling complex traits. The genetic factors and candidate genes controlling Prunus mume traits such as flower color, flower type, petal number, and pendulous branching were also used to mine, which greatly shortened the breeding cycle of Prunus mume, improved breeding efficiency, reduced breeding costs, and laid the foundation for molecularly assisted selection breeding of Prunus mume.
What we offer
At present, we have combined traditional breeding techniques with molecular breeding techniques to produce several distinct varieties of Prunus mume with high ornamental quality and resistance. This is done in a targeted manner.
- Flower color breeding. We have used molecular breeding techniques to analyze the regulation mechanism of anthocyanin glucoside synthesis in Prunus mume. We have effectively utilized it in molecular breeding research into Prunus mume flower color. This is done by regulating or inserting genes that regulate Prunus mume flower color. For example, we have applied genetic engineering techniques to breeding Prunus mume with a yellow system using genetic engineering techniques.
- Resistance breeding. We have bred resistant varieties of Prunus mume for cold resistance, waterlogging resistance, and air pollution resistance. For example, using molecular breeding technology, we have achieved rapid and efficient breeding of Prunus mume resistant varieties. We have made it possible to grow Prunus mume more widely worldwide. Resistance breeding plays a vital role in promoting Prunus mume breeding and enhancing its economic benefits.
- Flower type breeding. In addition to breeding for the common spreading, shallow bowl, and fluttering Prunus mume, we also breed for other less common varieties of Prunus mume.
- Flowering breeding. We aim to breed Prunus mume varieties with longer ornamental periods.
