Breeding of Dianthus caryophyllus L.
INQUIRYIntroductions
Dianthus caryophyllus L. is one of the world's major ornamental flowers and can be grown year-round in temperate regions worldwide. Today's Dianthus caryophyllus L. can be divided into single-headed cut-flower varieties, multi-headed cut-flower varieties, and potted varieties. Dianthus caryophyllus L. has a long breeding history and has produced a wide variety of species. Currently, the breeding goal is to produce new varieties with novel flower colors and shapes, strong flower fragrances, and disease resistance.
Lifeasible is committed to using mutation breeding and molecular breeding techniques to help customers improve the color, shape, disease resistance, and vase life of Dianthus caryophyllus L.
What We Follow
Based on the latest advances in Dianthus caryophyllus L. research and genome analysis, we will analyze the molecular mechanism of carnation flower color, flower type, bottle life, disease resistance, and other characteristics formation through high-throughput sequencing technology to breed novel varieties.

What We Provide
Flower Color Improvement
There are four major anthocyanins in Dianthus caryophyllus L., Pg3MG, Cy3MG, Pg3,5cMdG, and Cy3,5cMdG. The Dianthus caryophyllus L. with Pg3MG, Cy3MG, Pg3,5cMdG, and Cy3,5cMdG are usually expressed as reddish brown, dark red, pink, and purple, respectively. We can use genetic engineering techniques to produce blue Dianthus caryophyllus L. varieties with genes encoding flavonoid 3', and 5' hydroxylases.
Vase Life Improvement
The vase life of common Dianthus caryophyllus L. is 5-7 days. Dianthus caryophyllus L. are highly sensitive to ethylene, and exposure of fully open carnation flowers to ethylene induces self-catalyzed ethylene production and wilting of petals. We are committed to genetically improving vase life by helping our customers select strains of Dianthus caryophyllus L. with long bottle life and low ethylene sensitivity through conventional hybridization techniques.
Flower Fragrance Improvement
The fragrance of Dianthus caryophyllus L. is composed of benzene compounds, terpenoids, fatty acid derivatives, and other minor components. We can improve the floral characteristics of Dianthus caryophyllus L. by using wild species with distinctive fragrances as genetic resources, adding terpenoids to germplasm lacking terpenoids, or increasing the variety of benzenoids.
Disease Resistance Improvement
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi and Burkholderia caryophylli are two diseases that seriously affect the balsamroot industry. We are developing balsamroot varieties with high resistance to these two diseases using resistance screening and molecularly assisted selection methods.
