Breeding of Brassica napus
INQUIRYBrassica napus is an annual or biennial herb. It is native to Europe and widely grown around the world. It is one of the major oilseed crops. It is also widely used to enhance recreational and tourism uses because of its superior ornamental properties.
Lifeasible is dedicated to ornamental plant breeding research. With our advanced technology platform, we aim to provide comprehensive and effective solutions for breeding new Brassica napus varieties. So far, through hybridization and cloning technologies, we have bred Brassica napus varieties with various flower colors and types. However, we have also extended the flowering period. In addition, these bred Brassica napus varieties are unchanged in growth form and eating quality.
What we provide
We have conducted a lot of research on Brassica napus variation and isolated and cloned some Brassica napus control key genes. We have created some new Brassica napus varietal materials, such as flower color and type, by combining biotechnological means. This is critical for promoting tourist Brassica napus breeding.
- New varieties of colored Brassica napus were developed. The common cultivated Brassica napus is bright yellow. We have selected and bred white, orange, purple, and red canola series through natural mutation selection, artificial mutagenesis, and distant hybrid breeding. Our selection of colored Brassica napus has good ornamental value, greatly promotes modern ecological tourism, and has significant tourism, economic and social values. The new colored Brassica napus varieties we bred have significant tourism, economic and social values.
- New type of Brassica napus breeding. We breed Brassica napus flower types, such as butterfly and chicken claw types, with petals equal to or slightly larger than those of common Brassica napus. We also breed varieties of Brassica napus with large petals, whose petals are four times wider than those of common Brassica napus.
- Flowering specificity Brassica napus breeding. Using existing breeding techniques, we have bred early maturing varieties, medium maturing varieties, and late maturing varieties. We have extended the flowering period of Brassica napus and maximized the ornamental value of Brassica napus by combining Brassica napus varieties with different flowering periods.
