Breeding for Adversity Resistance in Tobacco
INQUIRYIntroduction
Tobacco, a plant that is widely grown throughout the world, has very many advantages. Plant growth is influenced by various environmental factors, and tobacco is no exception. Tobacco can be affected by abiotic stresses such as cold, drought, salt and heavy metals during its growth, therefore, it is of great significance to obtain new tobacco varieties with multiple stress resistance, additionally to improve tobacco yield and quality.
Service
Molecular breeding techniques enable the acquisition of tobacco strains with different resistance. Transforming resistance genes through genetic engineering can improve the resistance of crops to various types of stress. Lifeasible provides efficient and rapid access to stress resistant tobacco.
- Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS): Detection of genetic variation polymorphism of multiple individuals in the whole genome, genetic variation affecting stress resistance is screened and marked to further identify stress resistance related genes.
- Construction of transformation vector: Transfer of stress resistant gene into vector.
- Preparation of explants: Leaves, stems or seeds can be selected as explants, then sterilize and put it into appropriate culture medium for aseptic culture.
- Genetic transformation of tobacco: Get transgenic tobacco by Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated explant method.
- Identification of resistant plants: Screening of transgenic tobacco with corresponding antibiotic resistance.
- Access to large quantities of transgenic tobacco: Obtaining a large number of transgenic tobacco by tissue culture of resistant calli.
- Analysis of plant stress response indicators: By measuring different physiological indicators, such as antioxidant enzyme activity, malondialdehyde content, and proline content, and comparing their differences between transgenic plants and wild type, it can be further determined whether the plants are resistant to stress.
Technology Platforms
- Genetic transformation service platform: High-level transgenic and gene editing technology, and fast and efficient genetic transformation.
- Vector construction platform: Rich vector resources can provide vector with different resistances to meet diversified needs.
- GWAS analysis platform: simple generalized linear model analysis, generalized linear model analysis, mixed linear model analysis.
