Hybrid breeding
Hybrid breeding is the main method for selecting Anthurium andraeanum. We have greatly promoted the process of breeding new varieties of Anthurium andraeanum through crossbreeding by strengthening parental selection research and expanding the breeding population while focusing on distant techniques to introduce new traits into commercial varieties. So far, based on the cross-breeding technology, we have produced more new varieties of Anthurium andraeanum with good ornamental properties and strong adaptability.
Ploidy breeding
We have bred several new varieties of Anthurium andraeanum using a combination of tissue breeding and colchicine treatment and established a polyploid breeding technology system for Anthurium andraeanum. At the same time, we have continued to study the effects of chromosome doubling on the ornamental traits of Anthurium andraeanum in-depth, laying the foundation for breeding breakthrough new varieties of Anthurium andraeanum using ploidy breeding methods. The triploid potted varieties we have selected and bred are characterized by compact, tall, robust plants, thick leaves, and prominent corollas.
Molecular breeding
Currently, we provide molecular breeding of Anthurium andraeanum, mainly including transgenic breeding and molecular marker-assisted selection breeding. In addition, the methods we use for Anthurium andraeanum transgenesis include Agrobacterium-mediated method, gene gun method, and laser microbeam puncture method, among which Agrobacterium-mediated method is the most dominant method for Anthurium andraeanum transgenesis. We have produced new varieties of Anthurium andraeanum with different flower colors, disease resistance, insect tolerance, low-temperature tolerance, and heat tolerance by introducing structural and regulatory genes into Anthurium andraeanum. In addition, the molecular marker-assisted selection technology we provide in Anthurium andraeanum breeding has the technical advantages of being independent of environmental conditions, being able to select for multiple traits simultaneously at the genome-wide level, early selection, and having high selection accuracy. At present, molecular marker technology is mainly used to analyze the kinship of Anthurium andraeanum varieties.
